Youth Hockey Lessons

Pre Hockey

Introducing the new Pre Hockey program:

This level is meant to teach aspiring youth hockey players to learn to skate in hockey skates without full gear. Upon graduation, this class feeds into the 8:00am Hockey 1 class. All skaters in hockey skates in this class that need skating aids (e.g. buckets) will be brought to a more appropriate class such as Tiny Tots or Beginner 1 (with buckets).

Hockey 1, 2 and 3

Youth Hockey 1 - 2 - 3 These classes are open to children ages 6 and up and is an introductory class to the fundamentals of hockey skating. A skater should have already completed a skating class: Tiny Tots and PreHockey or Youth Beginner 1 Learn to Skate, or another comparable class at another rink to join the HOCKEY 1 class. Hockey 2 & 3 enrollment is contingent on completing the previous level.

For Hockey 1:

  • A proper hockey helmet, with a cage is required and a jersey of their choice is welcome.
  • No sticks allowed in Hockey 1. However based on the skill level improvement the use of a stick may be introduced at some point in the Hockey 1 series.
  • If you have full gear the skater is welcome to wear it.

For Hockey 2/3:

  • A proper hockey helmet, with a cage is required and full gear is required

Important Information

  • It is recommended, but not required,  that new students skate one time before their lesson to become accustomed to the ice and determine the proper size of skates.
  • On the first day all students should arrive at least 30 (thirty) minutes before class.
  • The first day is about organization for all of us and you and getting all of the skaters in to the correct class and/or level. This often can take a week or two to accomplish.
  • Please tie the skates tightly and firmly. Skates run true to shoe size. A skate that is too big is never advisable.
  • All Skating Class students (Children and Adults) should wear warm clothing, gloves and clothes that allow them to move easily on the ice. Helmets are always welcome, especially for children six and under
  • While we all want our skaters to start working on those doubles and triple jumps as soon as possible, please remember that a good, solid foundation comes first. Every coach on staff has excellent qualifications and many have made this a lifelong career. We all work in different ways to achieve the same results.
  • Please do not block the doors to the ice. It impedes the flow of traffic for the skaters and coaches entering and exiting AND can be quite dangerous too. The doors should be closed at all times.
  • Please do not interrupt the instructors while they are working.
  • PLEASE NOTE: Under no circumstances are Parents/Caregivers allowed on the ice during the lesson/practice time (with or without skates!)
  • Skate rental is not included in the enrollment price. A discounted book of rental tickets may be purchased from the cashier.
  • NO REFUNDS OR MAKE UP CLASSES ARE OFFERED.

What should my child wear?

Proper attire is important. The skating school recommends gloves and a warm sweater.
